Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate Sierra Leone through the power of social work.

- Dr. SYLVESTER AMARA LAMIN, SLASW President

Our History

Welcome to the Sierra Leone Association of Social Workers (SLASW), the foremost professional organization for social workers in Sierra Leone. Established as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the Laws of Sierra Leone, SLASW operates as a nonprofit entity owned by its members. Formally registered in 2023 following resolutions from the National Social Work Conference held in March of that year, SLASW has been actively affiliated with the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) since 2016. Our mission is to advance the social work profession and promote social welfare across the country.

SLASW represents a broad spectrum of social work professionals, students, and advocates who are passionate about creating positive change in key sectors such as healthcare, education, community development, mental health, and social services. Our members work tirelessly to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and communities throughout Sierra Leone, ensuring that vulnerable and marginalized groups receive the care and support they deserve.

As an independent national organization, SLASW is dedicated to advocating for the social work profession, providing opportunities for professional growth, and influencing policies that strengthen the impact of social work in Sierra Leone. With a presence in every region of the country, SLASW’s secretariat is overseen by Regional Secretaries who ensure effective coordination across all areas.

Our Mission

SLASW is committed to advancing the field of social work in Sierra Leone through professional development, advocacy, and community engagement. We strive to empower social workers, promote social justice, and improve the quality of life for all Sierra Leoneans.

Our Vision

We envision a Sierra Leone where every individual has access to quality social services, where social workers are recognized as essential professionals, and where social justice and equality are the foundation of our society. Through our collective efforts, we aim to build stronger, more resilient communities across the nation.
